All our machines come with the option of a fully-automated control systems that eliminate manual press set-up by storing set-up data in memory. No manual adjustments are required for limit switch positions, changing main ram and cushion tonnages, or fine-tuning press speeds and dwell time values. Simply enter a job number and all the changeable set-up parameters are aligned to their predetermined values. A color touchscreen PLC display shows detailed information about the status of the press controls, alarms, messages, and I/O conditions.

SAVAGE Ram Positioning Controller (RPC)

The Savage Ram Positioning Controller takes the guesswork out of straightening and other pressing applications. This device is programmable and will stop the ram automatically at a pre-determined setpoint with an accuracy of 0.001″.

The SAVAGE RPC eliminates manual press setup by storing setup data in memory. No manual adjustments are required for limit switch positions, changing main ram and cushion tonnages or fine tuning press speeds and dwell time values. Simply enter a job number and all the changeable set-up parameters are fine tuned to their predetermined values. Displays show detailed information about the status of the press controls, alarms, messages and I/O conditions. The user friendly operator interface displays numerical values and “at-a-glance” bar graphs for both setpoints and process values. Available in color touchscreen or by setpoint interface. Molding Presses include displays for temperatures, cooling and bump cycles.

The ability to “recall” repeat jobs from memory not only reduces changeover time but enhances quality control with consistently repeatable accurate parts. Data can be sent to a remote computer for historical data collection or to an RPC program.

Precision digital stroke control (via setpoint) comes standard with these frame types, and is cost-effective compared to the competition, all without the utilization of dirt-sensitive Servo-proportional valving.

Straightening Carriages (2):

The two (2) Straightening Carriages are connected together as an assembly with a common shaft. The fabricated steel carriages are adjustable in relation to each other with quick adjust locking lever. Each carriage rolls easily on Camroll wheels across the machined bed surface. A key keeps them on centerline with the punch.

Pressing Anvils (2):

Two (2) fabricated steel anvil-blocks are provided on the bed for straightening the work piece. A removable hardened insert is included. Brass inserts are available for a non-mar finish on polished work pieces.

The anvil-blocks are manually positioned. The anvil height is adjustable to various shaft diameters with an included shim kit in 1/2″, 1/4″, and 1/8″ thicknesses. Special U-shapes or V-shapes can be quoted to specified sizes under separate cover.

Punch (1):

A removable, flat steel ram straightening nose is provided with a replaceable hardened steel insert. Brass inserts are available for non-mar finish on polished shafting. A QC ram adapter is available for quick change-out of nose tooling with a single locking screw.

Outer Diameter Roller Supports (2):

Two O.D Roller Supports are standard for un-centered work. Capable of rotating shafts or tubes from .5″ to 2.5″ diameters. Large weight differences on the work pieces can be addressed by rapidly changing out lighter and heavier springs. The rollers readily interchange with optional center supports due to a quick pull pin.

Dial Indicator (1):

Dial indicator with custom mount, measures under the shaft, even during straightening. Graduations in .001″ increments. A knob allows quick vertical adjustments to accommodate different shaft diameters. Built in safety to protect indicator. One indicator is included, others are available optionally.

Center Supports (2) (optional with Package):

Two (2) optional Center Support Stands are available for center-drilled work pieces. A Morse tapered live center is supplied with a dead center in the opposite support. The live center support features a hand wheel adjustable forward feed to assist in loading shafts. Air clamping is available.

Bed Extensions (2) (optional with Package):

Two (2) optional bed extensions with supporting legs permit straightening up to the ends of the long work pieces. The extensions are not designed to withstand full straightening pressure. They are designed for work piece support and indication only. Allows carriage to be moved where desired. Keyed on centerline.
